51 Pegasi ('Helvetios') — a Sun-like G5 star 50 light-years away in Pegasus, a little older than the Sun. Ordinary in itself, it made history in 1995 as the first normal star found to host a planet — the discovery that opened the age of exoplanets.

Discovery & history
- Name
- A Flamsteed number (51 Pegasi); its IAU proper name is 'Helvetios' (Latin for the Helvetii, honouring its Swiss discoverers).
Catalogued long ago, it drew the world's attention in October 1995 when Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz measured its tiny wobble and announced a planet — the first around a Sun-like star, a result that won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics.
