Tau Ceti
Tau Ceti is one of the nearest stars similar to the Sun, 11.9 light-years away in Cetus: a G8V star, slightly smaller, cooler and dimmer than the Sun, considerably older, and notably metal-poor. It has long been a favourite target in the search for life. Several planets have been proposed around it, but all are disputed — none is robustly confirmed — so the map shows Tau Ceti as the Sun-like star it is, without inventing worlds around it.

- Tau Ceti's planets are ALL disputed. Radial-velocity surveys have proposed several worlds (e, f, g, h across 2012–2017), but the NASA Exoplanet Archive (checked 2026-07-04) flags every one it still lists — f, g and h — as controversial, and the earlier e/b/c/d claims have been retracted. The star's own magnetic activity produces radial-velocity signals that mimic planets, so none is robustly confirmed. We therefore render Tau Ceti as a lone Sun-like star and show no planets — none is confirmed to exist.

- 'Tau Ceti' is the Bayer (Greek-letter) designation for a star in Cetus, the Sea Monster. It has no widely-used proper name.
Known since antiquity as a Sun-like star of Cetus, Tau Ceti was one of the two stars Frank Drake listened to in the 1960 Project Ozma, the first modern search for alien radio signals. Several planets have been proposed since 2012, but all remain contested — the star's activity mimics the tiny signals, and none is confirmed.
