Discovery & history
- Name
- A designation from the Trans-Atlantic Exoplanet Survey (TrES); also Kepler-1 b, the first object in the Kepler catalogue.
TrES-2 b was one of the first transiting planets found (2006) and happened to sit in NASA's Kepler field (as Kepler-1 b). Kepler's exquisite photometry showed it reflects under 1% of its starlight — the lowest albedo of any planet then measured — its dark, hot atmosphere inferred to swallow light with little to reflect it.
